Red Dragon Audio is a start-up built around providing basic ICEpower modules with modest upgrades and selling them for modest prices. ICEpower, for those who haven't heard yet, is Bang and Olufsen's latest amplifier technology. Yes, Bang and Olufsen, makers of the ubiquitous slim speakers and sliding glass door CD players, makes some damn fine digital amps. But don't take my word for it, "6Moons Srajan" says it well enough:
"...Bang & Olufsen's new 1000ASP ICEpower module is the world's perfect amplifier...
...With 600/1000w into 8/4 ohms for this most potent of the current three ASP boards, we're talking drive-anything power.."
So there you go. Now, B&O sells these modules for any manufacture to buy (sorry DIYers, no personal sales) and, off the shelf, they're pretty great. But we're already seeing companies like Jeff Rowland and PS Audio highly modify the amps to achieve their own sonic characteristics and, naturally, charge significantly more for their efforts.
Red Dragon uses silver-plated wiring, special shielding and quality components to differentiate themselves. Their three stereo models are 600w at $1799, 250w at $1399 and 125w at $1199. Yes, that's 600 watts of digital slam. Word is multi-channel amps are in the works. We'll keep you updated as reviews come in.
