PS Audio GCC-250 Integrated Amp Review

Stereo Times reviews the PS Audio GCC-250 integrated. Now, what's different about this sucker is the proprietary Gain Cell - a digital means of controlling the gain (volume) of the system without using a sound-degrading volume pot. PS Audio claims to achieve the sonic purity of an amplifier without a pre-amp while still providing volume control.

For the power itself, PS Audio uses the Bang and Olufsen ICEPower digital amps, albeit highly modified to achieve PS Audio's unique sound. Overall, the 250 pristine watts of get Frank Alles to proclaim:

"I must tell you that the GCC-250 is the quietest amplifier that I’ve ever had in my system. Sounds just appear out of nowhere no matter how soft or loud they may be."

Part of that may come from PS Audio's power conditioning we posted about earlier as well as their in-house cable manufacturing. PS Audio blew up the reviews a couple years ago with their digital HCA amps and seems to have another hit on their hands.

Price runs $3495 for the 250 watt version, $2795 for 100 watts and $4495 for a whopping 500 watts in the same chassis shown here. PS Audio also makes a line of multi-channel amps that go all the way up to 7 channels with 500 watts a pop.
