Here's a cool little iPod accessory. The PocketDock Line Out USB is a $29.95 followup to their firewire version that lets you replace the Apple dock with a portable one.

It provides line out as well as USB 2.0 connection (1.1 doesn't seem to work). Included are mini-plug to RCA cables which you'll want to replace if going for a high-end solution. Though not full RCA or balanced XLR out, the PocketDock will give you a pure line out not controlled by the degrading iPod internal volume. Check out iPodLounge's great review for more.
