Jamo R909 Loudspeakers

by Josh Ray, Sep 27 '05

 News September 9

Enter the Jamo R909 speakers sans cabinets. Jamo has chosen an open air design for their new flagships which is an interesting choice few speaker manufacturers choose to go with. When creating bass, audio logic suggests you pressurize a box to achieve the deepest levels of bass. Without a cabinet, the speaker is forced to work extra hard and pressurize your room.

The downside is you need really big bass drivers, like Jamo's dual 15 inchers per side. The upside is you achieve a kind of disappearing act not normally attained with traditional boxes. While the bass will never be as deep, it's often of a much higher quality.

Anyway, to round off the package is a 5.5" midrange with a magnesium cone and neodymium magnet Jamo swears is their own design, though it's the spitting image of the fabled Seas line of drivers. Who am I to argue. And topping it off is a Scanspeak tweeter.

Release is in Q4 of 05 and no price is available yet, though you'll be able to get your new nude speakers in a variety of colors like fire engine red and banana yellow.
