HE2006: Odyssey Audio

How do I love my equipment, let me count the ways... Would you believe the gear from Odyssey Audio is identical to Germany's Symphonic Line but priced far less? The logic goes that if Euro/dollar conversion, shipping fees, retailer network and other pork is stripped away, then manufacturing equipment in the states can be vastly cheaper. Sound quality seems to support this claim with many a "holy Toledo!" yelled out during the brain-shaking demo.

Stereo amps start at $1195 and go up to $2895 while preamps start at $1125 for the non-tubed model. A tube pre is in the works with finish and build quality through the roof. Speakers are $595 to $2700 a pair. Check out one of my favorite pics of the show on the next page.

An especially nice touch when presenting the product to the press is his coffee cup unceremoniously placed atop one of the speakers. Sweet.
The stuff looks tight regardless.

The line has always struck me as a stupendous value. I haven't heard them to confirm, but trusted people acknowledge such a description is indeed valid.

Note to self: Do some research involving possible sound tweaks involving Starbucks coffee cups put on top of speakers, hear what happens, and write a report.

Who knows, this guy may be on to something :D
