Don't see a speaker like this every day, now do you? Green Mountain Audio unveils their new Calypso speaker, which appears to be part bookshelf, part floorstander, part alien invader. What you're looking at is a tweeter on top, a 4" midrange in the middle and an 8" woofer on the bottom, all housed in unique resonant-controlling enclosures. Price is $7600.
The box on the bottom appears to be integrated and serves as a stand but doesn't seem to do much else. Frequency comes in at 45Hz to 20 kHz with a range of +/- 0.75dB. Now, the bass is shy but that +/- 0.75dB is stunning (a normal speaker will measure +/- 3dB variation through the bandwidth). With numbers like that, no wonder Green Mountain gets rave reviews.
