Those boys over at Gingko audio do things differently. Not only do their aptly-named Tubulous speakers look like giant mallets, they also stuff three woofers into each horizontal section, creating an isobaric (fancy word!) loading mechanism for the mids. Basically, the three stacked drivers act in unison to simulate a much larger driver while keeping the speed and clarity of a smaller driver, or so the idea goes. 6Moons seems to like them pretty well.
