Pioneer’s new MusicTap system is a collection of beautiful music making components for your modern lifestyle. To get the music flowing through flat-pack house, simple tap a component into your electrical system (plug into an electrical outlet). No need to fuss with wireless networks. The core transmitting unit has 5 inputs including a direct USB connection for your PC or iPod, and the remote units have motion sensors that can be set to let the music flow when someone (or some thing) enters a room.
Seems easy enough to set up and get going, but it’s not really a slam dunk because you need to watch what else is connected to your AC… things like extension cords and wall-wart power supplies connected to the same outlet as a MusicTap device can cause poor sound quality.
We’re not talking super high-end sound here… with not nearly the capability of a Sonus or Squeezebox with their ability to stream uncompressed music and output a digital signal to your DAC.
I’m sure that’s not what the MusicTap system is about. It really seems geared to the style conscious communal music lover. Certainly high-end audio equipment manufacturers can learn a thing or two about attractive and original product design simply by looking at these pieces.
