Calix out of Taiwan goes with a very bizarre setups for their hybrid horn contraptions. You're looking at the $12,000 Venus Phoenix Grand above. A 10" woofer in a regular speaker box does the bass while a 1" tweeter in a wooden short horn sits smack in the middle. Up top, you have the special Calix horn with an atypical (for a horn) 2" midrange driver from Morel. It's amazing the whole contraption actually works but some people rave about the Calix sound.

Interestingly, the efficiency isn't up there with other horns. Their speakers fall between 88 and 90dB because, I imagine, the big woofers need a bit of juice. Check out our Calix Vegas coverage and hit up the Calix site for more info on the Venus and their other speakers up to $69,500.
