A tip landed in my email pointing me to a new pro company apparently blowing up the forums. Barefoot Sound is the name and their ultra pro monitors start around $3000 for response so flat it makes the walls jealous. Bryston provides the internal amplification for their range of speakers from the MiniMain12 to the floorstander Master212.
Another PMC or ATC jumping into the high-end arena? Truth is they'll probably make more money staying in the pro market. During a cursory tour of the Barnes and Noble mag rack, I noticed a couple new pro magazines prominently displayed right in front on the upper tier. S'phile and TAS? Hidden down in back like embarrassing relatives. Of course, I live in Los Angeles, the heart of music and movies, so seeing a industry-related rags is normal. But still, any bets on whether the pro market is bigger than hi-fi? Guitar Center? Sam Ash? It's bizarre, to say the least, how a professional industry can have hundreds of "megastores" across the country and our consumer industry has none.
