Cheap, cheap, cheap! Alegria audio is the self-defined crusader of budget high-end. Positive Feedback cuts to the chase about the $350/pair Ling speakers:
"I looked closely–and listened closely—to these lovely mid-size monitors, and realized that his profit margin must be virtually nonexistent. I grilled him to find out where he cut corners, but as it turns out, he didn't."
The Lings -- and the whole Alegria line, for that matter -- sport custom full-range drivers in a variety of configurations. The Ling shown has a super tweeter for a range of 60Hz to 30kHz. They also make a version without the super tweet (60Hz to 20kHz) priced at $269 and a number of home theater and tower options.
Overall, I'm pretty damn impressed by these guys. They pack in a lot of expensive goodies like costly drivers, real wood veneers and WBT binding posts -- more than you'll ever see in plastic Sony boxes at the same price. Small companies like this is what the audio underground is all about.
Oh, at it appears they have a special on the Lings -- $299/pr in cherry. Check out the Positive Feedback review for lots of flattery.
