Enjoy the Music takes two standard speakers and sets them up for nearfield use: Aerial Accoustics' 5B versus Thiel's PCS. Nearfield, that is, right next to his computer monitor. Companies like PMC we posted about earlier have been playing both sides for years now, creating near and midfield speakers for professional studio use while also wrapping them in some wife-friendly wood and selling them for home use.
If this review is any indication, the nearfield home market is expanding, and rightfully so. Who has a dedicated listening room, let alone a quiet living room? Offices combined with high resolution MP3s or lossless formats will, in my humble opinion, be one of the fastest growing areas of high end audio. Some companies have already jumped on the boat, expect to see more shortly. Check out our other post on a nearfield shootout comprised of 4 different speakers.
Oh yeah, no clear winner between the Aerial and Thiel, though the Arial seems to be the better deal. The Aerial runs $2000 to $2400 while the Thiel comes in at $3000.
